Destinations like Santorini, Bali, the Bahamas, and Maldives are popular vacation spots for many tourists. Bummer alert; the weather in these places means you can’t go any time of the year. With the monsoon season between April and September, you can’t visit places like the Maldives and Sri Lanka during the summer when you probably have the time to go on vacation. This is where Motherland comes in. Tourism in Africa is better than you may have heard, and it’s time to plan your next vacation in the world’s second-largest continent.
If you’re drawing up your vacation plans – think Africa. So many beautiful, safe, and picturesque destinations are waiting for you. We’ll cover some of the best vacation spots in Africa here. These places are highly rated by tourists around the world.
Are you ready to have the time of your life? Fasten your seatbelts, and let’s fly to Africa!
The Best Places to Visit in Africa
From North to South, East to West, Africa gives you a feeling like no other. Thankfully, tourism in Africa has improved a lot in the last decade. Here are places to choose from for your next vacation:
A New World in Zanzibar, Tanzania
Preconceived notions are one of the biggest problems facing tourism in Africa. Everyone outside the continent believes it’s just a hot desert with backward people and nothing to enjoy. That couldn’t be more wrong. Just take a look at Zanzibar in Tanzania. A visit here is like stepping into a different world. A place that is just so picturesque you ask yourself why you didn’t come earlier. Then, you’re already planning how you’ll return on your next vacation.
Zanzibar’s Stone Town is an island in the Indian Ocean off. It’s a picture-perfect turquoise sea. You could get lost in the beauty of this place, with narrow alleys surrounded by lively bazaars, ancient mosques, and intricately carved doorways. It is also home to many museums and a well-preserved history. You’ll marvel at the might and beauty of the 17th Century Old Fort of Zanzibar.
There are many beautiful beaches to choose from. Away from Zanzibar, Serengeti National Park, often ranked as the best safari destination in Africa, awaits you in Tanzania. What are you waiting for?
Go Back to Ancient Egypt With the Pyramids of Giza
It’s time to dig your feet deep into the sands that ancient Egyptians walked on. Egypt’s significance in human history cannot be denied. It is the meeting point of Africa, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean. Many prehistoric kingdoms formerly occupied the region. And if you’ve always wanted to see the pyramids of Egypt, plan it for your next vacation.
Giza is the most popular destination in the country due to its most famous structures. The Great Pyramid of Khufu, the only remaining survivor of the Seven Ancient Wonders, is there to behold. Despite being at least 2,000 years old, it remains a breathtaking sight to behold.
You can also visit the Great Sphinx, which dates back to the 26th Century BCE, and several other smaller pyramids. As a significant country in human history and evolution, Egypt has many amazing museums to learn about mankind.
Experience the Grandeur of Victoria Falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe
Victoria Falls is part of the great Zambezi River, which borders Zambia and Zimbabwe. The waterfall is easily accessible from both countries through Victoria Falls Town in Zimbabwe or Livingstone in Zambia. It is bordered by Zimbabwe to the west and Zambia to the east.
Most times, when traveling for vacation, you’re advised to avoid the rainy season. But if you want to truly enjoy Victoria Falls, you need to be there during the rainy season. You’ll see why the locals call the waterfall “The Smoke That Thunders.”
Everyone needs to experience the sound of water rushing over rocks and plunging into a pool that is over 300 feet below. It sounds exactly like the roll of thunder – a truly stunning sight that no words can do justice to. You can also enjoy Victoria Falls by kayaking, rafting, or taking a romantic twilight cruise beneath the fall.
Visit the Dunes in Sossusvlei, Namibia
Namibia, a unique location in southwest Africa, is sometimes overlooked while making travel plans for the continent. Anyone interested in tourism in Africa must add this to their list. The Namib Desert and Sossusvlei are only two examples of the many experiences and unique scenery to be found in the country.
Sossusvlei, a massive, flat salt pan that is a part of Namib-Naukluft National Park, has been shaped into an otherworldly environment of gigantic dunes and barren valleys dotted with fossilized dead trees. It is especially breathtaking in the morning when the rising sun illuminates and highlights the dunes.
There are many other places to visit in Namibia, including the Etosha National Park, the Skeleton Coast, named after the skeletons of wrecked ships on the misty Atlantic Coastline, and the Fish River Canyon, the largest in Africa.
Climb the Grand Mountain Kilimanjaro in Tanzania
We have circled back to Tanzania, and it’s unsurprising. This is one of the most beautiful countries in Africa and the world. The next destination in this wonderful country is Mount Kilimanjaro. If you’ve never seen the highest mountain in Africa, then it’s time to visit on your next vacation. Or, if you’re up for some activity during your vacation, maybe it’s time to climb to the top!
Most tourists visit to climb to the summit of Kilimanjaro. You can, too, because the trek requires neither rock climbing skills nor mountaineering equipment. You’ll also escape extreme weather conditions like you would when climbing to the top of other continents’ highest mountains, such as Mount Everest.
It’s important that you’re in great physical condition before attempting this. The climb takes a minimum of six days, and you need a guided tour. If you don’t have that time, you can also see the wildlife safaris with the grand mountain behind them.
Dig Into the Beaches in Praslin, Seychelles
Praslin is the second-largest tropical island in Seychelles, and it sits in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The island has a handful of upscale resorts, but Anse Lazio and the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve are the best of the bunch.
Anse Lazio is a gorgeous beach with crystal-clear water and terrific snorkeling opportunities. The extremely rare Seychelles Black Parrot is one of the many birds and reptiles that call the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve home. Truly, no visit to Praslin is complete without visiting Vallée de Mai, the largest Coco de Mer forest in the world.
The Okavango Delta in Botswana Is a Great Place for Tourism in Africa
Another well-known safari location is Botswana, which is located in southern Africa. The Okavango Delta is a popular tourist destination in the northern part of the nation. During the rainy season, this large interior river delta floods and offers a distinctive safari experience.
At that point, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the river in a dugout boat while dodging hippos and crocodiles and keeping a lookout for elephants, giraffes, and other creatures that use the river for drinking water.
A significant portion of the Okavango Delta is covered by the Moremi Game Reserve, which is also home to numerous posh safari hotels. As the entry point to the delta, Maun is a good location to arrange more reasonably priced canoe and land safaris.
Marrakesh in Morocco Is Where the Fun Is
Morocco encapsulates the goodies of tourism in Africa, especially the north. Marrakech is the biggest city in Morocco, after Rabat and Casablanca. Because it is such a fascinating city with a long history and magnificent architecture, it is one of the most well-liked travel destinations in the country.
The busy Djemaa El-Fna serves as the center of Marrakech’s old Medina, where visitors can enjoy local cuisine while perusing stores and seeing snake charmers and acrobats perform. You can also visit souks, or open-air markets, before unwinding in a nearby hammam or spa.
